S50716+71 is an active Blazar which can vary by up to one magnitude in four weeks, as well as undergoing small amplitude nightly variations (IntraDay Variations), although these are more suited to CCD than visual detection.

 

During early 2004, S50716+71 reached an historical maximum of 12th magnitude.
